Mad Men Finale Episode 13 Shut the Door. Sit Down

Like the saying goes, "All good things must come to and end" , as is the case with the ending of the third season of Mad Men ::wiping tears:: .  Did you watch it? If you did, I hope you will agree that it was a fantastic finale!  I was delighted to see that closure was brought to some of the loose ends that were dangling in Mad Men world throughout the season, and once again, this episode was very metaphorical with the Shut the Door. Sit Down theme.

Almost every character involved had some sort of meeting where they were told some sorth of life-changing bit of news: that St. John is selling all of PPL to McCann Erickson (where Duck works!); that Betty has hired a divorce lawyer; that Don, Roger and Bert are determined to buy the company back; that Betty won't have an easy time of divorcing Don in New York; that Don wants Peggy to quit Sterling Cooper and come with him; that Don and Roger need Pete to come on board; that Bobby and Sally's parents will be separating; and that Don, after being an aloof bastard to Peggy for most of this season, will do anything to get her to go with him to join the new firm.

I don't want to ramble on about the episode but I've got to say that the Peggy and Don scene was one of the most pivotal scenes, along with the scene where Betty and Don tell the kiddies about the separation (although I'm sad for the kids, I am relieved that those two are done, they were both miserable) I must admit I had to reach for the Kleenex box while I was watching these scenes.

Really, I do think the finale was the BEST episode ever, everything came full circle, with the exception of wondering what will happen to the rest of the MM crew left behind.  And while I'm bummed that the season is over, I'm sure Matt Weiner will or has put his creative hat on and keep us wondering what he has in store for us in Season 4.  Now, what will I watch on Sunday nights? ::pouts:: ah, thank goodness for On Demand ;)

While I don't know if I will have much to write about anymore, I will try to keep abreast of all the MM gossip, and will keep you posted!

What were your thoughts?

Episode 12 The Grownups

So here we are... at the penultimate episode of Mad Men's season 3...and I have to admit I'm bummed that I'll have to wait a whole year until my favorite show returns! But... at least it will return right?!

Ah...how will the show end I wonder? If you haven't watched Episode 12, please don't read any further..I don't want to spoil it for you...but if you did we all know what the highlight of the show was..the tragic infamous JFK assassination, and while the show revolves around the evolution of  pivotal events that took place during the 60s whilst tying in the lives of the characters,  I have to say that I was a tad disappointed that the assassination dwarfed the whole episode or was relevant to almost every scene.  Although, I can understand and appreciate how such an event could bring the world to a halt, as did 9/11 in more recent times.

But anyhow, I thought that the episode was good overall, and I thought that the death of Kennedy was metaphorical and resonant  in the lives of some of the Mad Men characters, for example, the 'death' of Pete Campbell's career, the perhaps imminent 'death' of Don and Betty's marriage and perhaps also a foreboding for Cooper, realizing that perhaps he did make a mistake in marrying Jane. It's amazing how the tragedy of that infamous day jostled the lives of the characters.  What did you think of the episode? and what do you predict will happen in the final episode?
